Hobson Golf Club was opened as a pay and play municipal course in 1979 by Derwentside District Council. Later, a full annual membership was introduced, and from that time, the Hobson Golf Club was formed to administer competitive golf and a handicap facility in line with the Durham County Golf Union.
In 2000, Derwentside D.C. decided to put the leasing of the course out to tender. The membership submitted the successful bid.
Hobson Golf Club Ltd was incorporated in 2001 and signed a 30 year lease to run the course. It is run by a board of 6 Directors, a Finance Manager and a Bar/Administration Manager.
Since the formation of the Club in 2001, many improvements have been made and the focus of our efforts has been on improving the condition of the course in particular a lot of drainage work has been carried out. The club has also invested heavily in course machinery and a new green keeper's shed. There is an ongoing commitment to continue improving the course and the other facilities at the C lub.
The club has a golf professional, Mr. Jack Ord , who has been resident for over 25 years, and who has an extensively stocked shop and offers a full range of golfing services.
The newly refurbished club lounge/dining room is available for private functions for members and non-members. Enquiries and bookings should be made by telephoning the clubhouse.
